2.6.32 and uvesafb

Since the update to 2.6.32 my uvesafb seems to run at 320x200. I'm getting no errors via dmesg and I've double-checked all the settings for uvesafb in /etc/modprobe.d as described in the Wiki.

Any ideas?

/etc/modprobe.d/uvesafb.conf:

options uvesafb mode_option=1280x800-32 scroll=ywrap

dmesg | grep uvesafb:

uvesafb: NVIDIA Corporation, G73 Board - e463h10 , Chip Rev , OEM: NVIDIA, VBE v3.0
uvesafb: VBIOS/hardware doesn't support DDC transfers
uvesafb: no monitor limits have been set, default refresh rate will be used
uvesafb: scrolling: redraw
uvesafb: framebuffer at 0xd0000000, mapped to 0xffffc90010100000, using 6144k, total 262144k

Thanks,

lynix

Re: 2.6.32 and uvesafb

Same problem here, I downgraded the kernel to 2.6.31 for the time being and that solved it. Some bug, I suppose.

Re: 2.6.32 and uvesafb

I know someone having the same issue under Gentoo since the upgrade to 2.6.32, so I suppose it's a kernel bug or at least some upstream stuff.
Won't open a bug report here. smile

Any news on this? Starts to get on my nerves... smile
Recent kernel26 update didn't change anything. I still don't know if its related to the kernel or v86d.

Re: 2.6.32 and uvesafb

Okay, made some progress: I found the corresponding gentoo bug, which lead me to /sys/class/graphics/fb0/device/vbe_modes, where the available resolutions should be listed.
The problem in my case is that the resolution I selected via modprobe.conf (1280x800) is not in the list and therefore v86d seems to fall back to the lowest available.

I tried 1024x768, hich is in the list --> works smile

Well, this is not widescreen and still looks ugly, but better than 320x200 wink

Re: 2.6.32 and uvesafb

My list is:

640x400-8, 0x0100
640x480-8, 0x0101
800x600-8, 0x0103
1024x768-8, 0x0105
320x200-16, 0x010e
320x200-32, 0x010f
640x480-16, 0x0111
640x480-32, 0x0112
800x600-16, 0x0114
800x600-32, 0x0115
1024x768-16, 0x0117
1024x768-32, 0x0118
320x200-8, 0x0130
320x400-8, 0x0131
320x400-16, 0x0132
320x400-32, 0x0133
320x240-8, 0x0134
320x240-16, 0x0135
320x240-32, 0x0136
640x400-16, 0x013d
640x400-32, 0x013e
1280x800-8, 0x0160
1280x800-32, 0x0161
768x480-8, 0x0162
1280x720-32, 0x017b

However 1280x800-32 won't work and it just does 1024x768-?
Note: It was fine with the old vga kernel line and I changed to uvesafb recently. I have no idea if 2.6.32 has any effect.

That list may help someone.

Edit: Also play with options here: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/g … vesafb.txt

Re: 2.6.32 and uvesafb

My list looks similar to yours. The weird thing is that until 2.6.32 my native resolution (1280x800) has been on that list. I don't understand why it was removed, will try to figure that out.

Re: 2.6.32 and uvesafb

Well, I got a new 24" flat screen which uses 1920x1080 running with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 280.
uvesafb always falls back to 320x200, no matter which resolution I pick from the list under /sys/...

Any progress on this issue?
