There is already an old thread for another laptop. Similar problem is there with Acer 5738G. Without using the hardware toggle switch , thro' script using synclient to on/off touch pad works fine. setting in xorg / key binding etc tried but of no use. (openbox setup) Is it a bug?
Many forums discussed similar issue but no solution. This seems to be isolated for certain hardware. In hp dv5 the hardware lock for touch pad works just fine.
