System not entering Suspension or Hibernation (not related to resume)

Since a couple of weeks (I can't point out the exact update), my system will not enter Suspend or Hibernation anymore (tried with both, pm-utils and the function that comes with KDE4).

I found online, that some people had issues with resuming from a suspend or hibernate, and solved it by adding 'resume' to HOOKS= in mkinitcpio.conf.

However, this is _not_ my problem. When I tell my system to suspend/hibernate, it initalizes the process, the screen goes black, but my system does not shut down. The computer keeps running (with no output to the screen). Keyboard input or anything else will not work then, and I have to make a hard reboot.

Ideas?
