External wireless cards

A laptop i want to install arch linux on currently does not have in built wireless settings (yes i know, it's a piece of junk). Does arch linux support an external wireless card or would i have to connect it to the internet using wires?

Re: External wireless cards

Wireless cards are supported by the kernel in most cases - only the newest chipsets require additional drivers to be built and installed. You can do a net install over wireless by configuring the connection before running the install script. Details in the wiki, particularly the Wireless Setup page and the Beginners' Guide.

So my external wireless card should work right? I've tried looking it up on the cisco website, and well they haven't supported it for about 3-4 years now.

Re: External wireless cards

The card manufacturer is not relevant. You need to identify the chipset used in the card. Please refer to the wiki pages I suggested.
