VLC lan crashing segmentation fault

I'm having problems starting vlc lately. Here is the error message

<code>
[mo@mo-pc ~]$ vlc
VLC media player 1.0.5 Goldeneye
[0x9b6f8c8] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.

(process:5970): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot register existing type `LinkConnection'

(process:5970): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_register_static: assertion `parent_type > 0' failed

(process:5970): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot register existing type `LinkConnection'

(process:5970): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_new_valist: assertion `G_TYPE_IS_OBJECT (object_type)' failed
Segmentation fault
</code>

Any ideas what might be the cause?
