Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

If I upgrade the kernel using your repo' Perry3D, do I also have to update the other -git packages afterwards?  They were fresh a couple of days ago.

I used to be surprised that I was still surprised by my own stupidity, finding it strangely refreshing.
Well, now I don't find it refreshing.

No, kernel and the driver packages are not linked.

But why do you not want to update the libdrm, mesa and xf86-video-ati package? They are also in the repository.

So better than yesterday.

my only error messge is in GLXINFO.

Thanks for that, I wasn't sure how that worked.

Good question. smile

I will upgrade the lot...

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

I installed (very quickly smile) the lot from your repo Perry3D.

There is no noticeable change anywhere in my system as yet.

glxgears is the same speed, Glest & videos still plays at least as good as they did in .33.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

i am using powersave option in my kernel line. After resuming from suspend the laptop keeps heating up and the graphics fan never kicks in. I am fully updated from perry3Ds repo.
Any one experiencing this issue? I am on XPS studio 1640 with mobility radeon HD3670
this is what my sensors command shows

[venky@ARCH64XPS ~]$ sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +0.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)
temp2: +0.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)
temp3: +0.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)

I restarted coz the laptop became too hot, the fan immediately kicked in and this is what I get for the sensors command now

[venky@ARCH64XPS ~]$ sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +71.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)
temp2: +63.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)
temp3: +72.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)

I do not see anything for the radeon graphics card, do I have to run sensors-detect for that?

If this brings a performance boost?

@Coragem: which repo are you using?

@handy: The only noticeable new feature in 2.6.34 is power managment.

@venky: Remember that power managment is not stable (the kernel is a release candidate). Did you look at the bugreports (http://bugs.freedesktop.org)? Or open a new bug.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Perry,

I'm using the nightly repo from the first page. I don't plan to update those GIT packages so often to avoid messing with the system since its working so far.

[nightly]
Server = http://nightly.uhuc.de/x86_64

/Edit: do you know why libgl is looking for those libs on my last post and where are they from?

Thx

I tested QuakeLive again and it is working now. But i can not disable vsync in fullscreen: i always have 60fps (100+ in window mode).

@Coragem: This libs are part of mesa:
% pacman -Ql |grep r600_dri.so
mesa-full /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/r600_dri.so

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

hello,

i have followed your tips for using my ATI hd4650 graphic card with open source driver, and i haven't had problem.
On nexuiz, some problem of texture map are present but not very disturbing. However the game freeze after few minutes and made "crashed" the system.

I used the mirror nightly. With kernel 2.6.33-rc8-00164-gaea187c-dirty.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

I haven't observed anything yet (today compiled mesa-r600-r700-git). Still around 1820 FPS with HD2600XT (r630) and KWin.

By the way, has anyone with HD2600 visible sensors of it? sensors-detect doesn't show me such, but I'm certain that on Windows and with Catalyst there was one thermal sensor visible.
I need to check the temperature because I replaced the onboard fan with fanless radiator (only 'cause PM wasn't so good).

It would be much easier if there was some kind of error message that actually told me WHY it couldn't load the firmware.

edit: With libdrm-git from yesterday it works. But I would really like to know why the error message can't describe the error that occured by loading the file.

So it isn't much help as far as knowing what is going on with the GPU for me.  I don't know if there is any way of finding out which sensor is on the GPU?

It HAPPENS in stable kernel. And video driver has nothing to do with that. It happens in all linuxes since the latest versions of 2.6.31. And is still UNFIXED.
Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

'14667.' is not a valid bug number nor an alias to a bug.

Will this patch merged to master?

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

There has been an important breakthrough for the month-old KMS draconic crash bug most commonly affecting KDE/Kwin and Flash users reported here and over at http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15276

The three patches apply nicely to 2.6.34-git and brings a very welcome improvement. Perhaps they should go into the repo kernel as well.

/Edit: do you know why libgl is looking for those libs on my last post and where are they from?

The libs libgl is looking for come from libgl-git (swrast_dri.so, never seen this lib missing while libgl is installed; software rendering) and ati-dri-git (r600_dri.so) since you use the nightly repo.
