[SOLVED] Losing wireless in KDE only

Wireless is configured and working at the console. I just installed KDE and after launching kdm and attempting any download from Konsole all wireless connections to my Linksys WRT54G are dropped. Wired connections continue working but wireless cannot even connect to the router (even from other machines). After about 30 seconds the connection is automatically reestablished. When I attempt a wget from Konsole inside KDE and reliably the connection is dropped 4 or 5 seconds into the file but when I exit KDE and do the same thing from the base console it has never happened.

wlan0: Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)
KDE 4.4.1
System is up-to-date

Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide.

Re: [SOLVED] Losing wireless in KDE only

Sounds like some sort of networkmanager issue to me. Are any installed and running when this problem is seen?

Don't break the silence unless you can improve upon it.

Re: [SOLVED] Losing wireless in KDE only

As far as I know wpa_supplicant is the only network manager running. This problem seems to have disappeared though since pacman was downloading from within KDE just fine now. If I can replicate it again I'll update this topic with more information. Thanks!

Re: [SOLVED] Losing wireless in KDE only

Problem is back, must have just been lucky for a little bit. The only network manager I have set up is netcfg with net-profiles configured to connect at boot (desktop, so no roaming). As far as I know when I'm booted up with KDM it is using the same thing. I'm using iwconfig to check/perform network operations even within KDE.

Re: [SOLVED] Losing wireless in KDE only

Switched to WICD, no change, switched to Gnome, no change. Changed my Wireless AP to use WPA2 instead of WPA1 and I haven't had the problem since. Marking this as solved. Might have been a hardware issue?
