kernel 2.6-test5-mm3 almost work,but two issue

today I compile 2.6 kernel, and success login to system.
but i found two issue
1) i can not start xwindow ,when use following command
# startx
nothing happen

2) sound card is loaded by kernel ,but no sounds

1) what kind of a video card do you have?  you may have forgot to add the module in the kernel config, or possibly you need to recompile/"install" it (if it's a nvidia card, get their installer and run it).

2) what kind of a sound card do you have?  what module is being loaded for it?  are you getting any errors?

my main board is sis735, my video card is geforce 400,what  moudle i should add to kernel ?

2) what kind of a sound card do you have? what module is being loaded for it? are you getting any errors?
my soud card is sis7012 .i compile sound card sopport in kernel(not modules), and when i start mplayer and mp3blaster,them  can play but no
sound . change sound volume still can't hear any sound

since you have a nvidia card you will have to reinstall the nvidia drivers. using these instructions.

for your sound.....since the native sound in the 2.6 kernel is alsa my guess is that you will have to unmute your sound channels. to do this open a mixer, such as aumix, and unmute the channels to the desired sound level.

if i don't want use nvidia driver, only use linux native driver.  what i shoud do?

In the driver section of /etc/X11/XF86Config, have your card use the "nv" driver,

Semi OT:  I successfuly installed the patched NVIDIA drivers, but for some reason, I have to reinstall them every reboot, anyone know how to solve this?
