Install problem - unable to mount devfs

I tried to install Arch and get "Unable to mount devfs" and then a kernel panic.
I tried with kernels 2.4 and 2.6 included in the arch 0.7 cd and all give me the same error.
Also follow the instructions here http://wiki2.archlinux.org/index.php/Qu … %20Install. Same error.

How do I fix this. TIA

Re: Install problem - unable to mount devfs

The problem was that when the setup asked me where to install Grub, I chosed "..../disc0/-" instead of "..../disc0/partX". I wonder why "..../disc0/-" is given as an option if selecting it will give you this problem.

interesting question... maybe file a bug report, unless somebody can provide a reason for it.

Re: Install problem - unable to mount devfs

The /disc0 part is the MBR (Master Boot Record), which is where I have always installed my bootloader, without issue I might add. So /disc0 is not the problem, something else is.

Hmm, but what....

When you install grub to that directory does it spit out any errors? Or does the installer say that it installed just fine?
Also if you try to reinstall, check console 5 (alt+F5) and see if it says anything regarding grub.
What file system are you running with? Ext3, reiserfs, xfs etc...?
You could also try and use udev instead. When editing the config files during that part of the install, go and read the grub file. It will tell you how to use udev.

I can't think of anything else right now (2:25 am where I am...), if I think  of anything else I'll post.
