Hey guys, first time on the forums still new to arch
So I have bought the an Asus m2n68 plus motherboard and I really want to get arch running perfectly on it.
The ethernet is buggered but I have no idea why. Feel free to ask me what I should post here (dmesg, iwconfig, etc.)
Thanks hope you can help!

Welcome to the forums Tironn.
What do you mean by "buggered"?
Offline
Yeah. Sorry I was so unspecific.
What I mean is that nothing is showing up.
When running ifconfig I get only the loopback.
I also tried iwconfig and strangely a eth0 shows up.
Thats all I've tried so far
Offline
by the way the network adaptor is RTL8211CL Gigabit LAN

Searching the web on this one isn't real helpful...
You can see it with iwconfig? Very weird. What does 'lsmod | grep rt' say?
Offline
It gives back:
parport_pc 32228 1
parport 35340 3 lp,ppdev,parport_pc
So its not loading the realtek drivers?

No, it's not. I tried to dig around to find what people are using to get this card up and I didn't turn up anything. I'm going to defer and hopefully someone with experience will jump in. Sorry I couldn't help.

No problem. Thanks for your help!

Also running 'ifconfig eth0' returns some information not an error
Offline
Run lspci -k, see if a kernel module is identified for your nic. If it is, modprobe it and check dmesg.
Also check dmesg for any reference to eth0, since it's showing in ifconfig.

Ok lspci:

OK - but you have eth0 as an interface right? did you look for it in dmesg?
Post ifconfig -a.

I meant the Arch wiki, specifically the Network page. I realise this is Newbie Corner, but it's still Arch, and you are still expected to consult the wiki and search the forum before asking basic questions.

Ok sorry about that, I'll make sure to look around now

OK so I've read through the main networking introduction. After starting up heres what I've done:
ifconfig eth0 up
dhcpcd release eth0
dhcpcd eth0
dhcpcd: version 5.0.6 starting
dhcpcd: waiting for carrier
dhcpcd: timed out
edit:
Ok. A bit of a development (maybe?). I installed the latest version of dhclient and tried with that.
Just running 'dhclient eth0' just does nothing and I have to cancel with Ctrl-C but running 'dhclient -6 eth0' causes it to exit with no errors or warnings.
After 'ifconfig -a' I still have no inet address but at least '-6' didn't hang/timeout!

Ok guys. This is really embarrassing. It was a faulty cable thats all.
I changed cables and it worked no problem.
Sorry for wasting your time.
