OK, will do. But not now - i'll be AFK for couple of days... i shall return in monday.

fglrx isn't officially supporting .33, not mentioning .34 wink
Yes - aur's pkg has got .33 support.

And yes - .33 is out smile.
Although there is no ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/other/kernel26/ … 1-ARCH.bz2 patch, so i cannot build new [catalyst*] repo packages...
Usually new kernels are laying on [testing] for week, maybe 2 weeks before hitting [core] repo - i hope there will be no surprises here so i may return on time and rebuild [catalyst*] repos

Im getting those warnings all the time, but catalyst was always working for me. I think the problem could be elsewhere, unfortunately your log is really telling nothing to me hmm. Do what flamelab said, maybe try with different catalyst and xorg-server (< 1.7 ofcourse). If that won't help - try to chat on irc (freenode - #xorg and #ati i guess) and ask what your log means.
Keep askin on this forum - maybe someone will help you.
And please write down solution when you will find one.
That's all from me for now - afk...

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Important notice to all who use my xorg-old repo. I'll be taking mine down for a few reasons. One, I might be moving sometimes fairly soon, and when I do I'd have to take it down anyways. Also, it's going very slow and I think some of the packages might be broken. Last, I tried to fix some stuff on it, and my server is being awful about it. SAMBA transfer freezes my internet connection, SSHFS doesn't work right either, so it's very hard to even mess with it, not sure why... I suggest everyone use the repo hosted by our good friends at the Chakra Project (KDEmod): http://chakra-project.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?pid=15608

i686:

[xorg-old-1.6.3.901]
Server = http://chakra-project.org/repo/xorg-old/i686

x86_64:

[xorg-1.6.3.901]
Server = http://chakra-project.org/repo/xorg-old/x86_64

Or, how 'bout ATI gets their act together and make Catalyst compatible with Xorg 1.7....jeez it's been like 4 months. Maybe they will since Ubuntu 10.04 is going to be out next month, and I'd assume they want it to be compatible with that (and I assume Ubuntu uses Xorg 1.7)

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

kernel26-2.6.33 is still in testing, i prepared catalyst-testing repo with kernel 2.6.33-ARCH support for catalyst in both versions 10.1 and 10.2.

catalyst 10.2 (this will distroy your kwin and sometimes also compiz)
For i686:

[catalyst-10.2-testing]
    Server = http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4321633/repo/catalyst/i686/

For x86_64:

[catalyst-10.2-testing]
    Server = http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4321633/repo/catalyst/x86_64/

---

catalyst 10.1
For i686:

For x86_64:

Can some tester confirm its working fine? smile
Thanks in advance.

I am using kernel 33 from testing and catalyst 10.1 from aur (not your repo) and works fine.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200M]

need catalyst-old 9.3-2, catalyst-utils-old 9.3-1, kernel26<2.6.30, xorg-server<1.6.0

LTS kernel will maybe help and http://www.chakra-project.org/repo/xorg-old/x86_64/ also ...

What would be the easiest way to use Catalyst-old on an up-to-date Arch setup ???

The best way would be that some user sets up a repository containing all the outdated packages needed to make catalyst-old work, like Vi0l0's repo for catalyst (which includes all the old xorg packages). You could then add that repo at the top of the list in pacman.conf and you're done: pacman -Syy and pacman -Suu. Then you could upgrade your system with pacman -Syu without problems (clearly, as long as the programs you wish to use don't need up-to-date packages).
Obviously you would need someone who will actually set up the repo, and this could be hard. Much more simple should be to switch to open drivers, if you have the possibility to do it...

On my laptop (Mobility HD 3470) the xf86-video-ati from the official Arch repo let me use 3D desktop effects. I didn't try them with games but I think they also allow to play something, even if performances are not so good.
But if you are on laptop I think the most problematic issue is power management which is very bad in open drivers, and by now is decent only with catalyst. That's why I'm still with catalyst.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Ok people I tried doing this myself but it's obvious I am not smart enough to get this done.

I have a Ati Radeon HD 4850, I used various methods to try getting Catalyst work, but no one worked:

1.-
a- I downgraded the xorg-server to 1.6.3.901 using the repositories from the Chakra people.
b- I got the Vi0L0's catalyst 10.1-4 and lib32-catalyst-utils 10.1-1 from AUR.
c- I used aticonfig successfully.
d- I added fglrx to the modprobe module array.
r= restart and I got black screen with the cursor at the top-left corner.

2.-
a- I added Vi0L0's repository, pacman -Suu and pacman -Syy.
b- installed Catalyst and xorg-server-catalyst-maximize-fix from the repository.
c- I used aticonfig successfully.
d- I added fglrx to the modprobe module array.
r= restart and I got the same issue from above.

In both attempts I uninstalled the old packages and installed the new ones successfully with no issue, but the result is always the same, the damn black screen with the cursor at the top-left corner.

I also tried erasing the /etc/ati directory or the /etc/ati/config, loading manually fglrx with modprobe fglrx before startx, etc.

Nice, xorg-server 1.7 support... 1.8 is coming out within a few weeks.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Well, I have also tried Vi0L0's repositories for catalyst 9.10, 9.12 and 10.1, with not success so far, I am using kernel 2.6.32 (stock).

Maybe I have to reinstall my ArchLinux like kronsi did earlier and got Catalyst working, that means there are some config files that prevent Catalyst working properly even with all dependencies satisfied, if somebody know what I have to delete please tell me.

darn, CatalystMaker should be less enigmatic on hes twitter's posts <sigh>...

While wondering how much time we need to wait for 10.3 i have prepared fresh testing arch i686 installation just for catalyst and incoming troubles with xorg-server 1.8 packages...

Second thought is what this information:
"Hal removal - Lucid Alpha 2 sports full removal of the hal package, making Ubuntu faster to boot and faster to resume from suspend. "
found on ubuntu LTS 10.0.4 alpha2 site means?

AFAIK xorg-server 1.7 is using hal for device recognition. Does ubuntu information mean that they have switched to libudev? As i heard on irc - yes. And so -  will catalyst work with both udev and hal? (i darn hope so) Or we need to switch to udev version? wink

(arch's xorg-server package with udev support is here http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=32428 )

And btw using udev instead of hal is one of most important features in incoming x-server 1.8

Edit: Official Note: "On March 24th we will post the official Catalyst™ 10.3 WHQL certified on amd.com."

i will try to do something with it

Edit: and as we can all read on this phoronix page - there will be no xorg-server 1.7 support on catalyst 10.3

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

This updated Catalyst Linux driver has support for X.Org Server 1.7 and the Linux 2.6.32 kernel

There is no official support for 1.7. Or do you mean xorg-server 1.8?
