I have a laptop with fedora linux currently installed. I wish to install Arch on the laptop is well. I used dd to put the latest .img file on my usb key and booted form it. However booting from the usbkey results in the GRUB Error 17 message which I did not know could occur on a usb key. What should I do ?

What I did was to download an Arch ISO file and write it to a usb key with 'unetbootin'.
In Arch 'unetbootin' is in the AUR, Fedora will also have some means of installing it.

I created a usbkey with unetbootin on fedora and using the latest arch iso. However I get an error now saying "ERROR: boot device didn't show after 30 seconds... Falling back to interactive prompt You can try to fix the problem manually, log out when you are finished"
What can I do now?

In Unetbootin you have to choose:
Distribution: Arch Linux, 2008.03-1
Type USB Drive , /dev/...
Not all USBkeys brands work.

Is there no way to have a usb boot medium with the newer install cds?

Don't know, but it shouldn't matter on a rolling release.
