after running a Pacman -Syu yesterday which included a kernel update to kernel26-2.6.32.10-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz, i can no longer use any usb devices, my arch 64 laptop simply does not recognize them, anyone else have this problem?
when i attempt to downgrade... the kernel i simply get
[root@Arch aaron]# pacman -U kernel26-2.6.32.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz
loading package data...
error: 'kernel26-2.6.32.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz': cannot open package file
[root@Arch aaron]#
i can get you any outputs you need, i just need a solution to this quickly! i can't wait for the next update

What is the working directory (should be /var/cache/pacman/pkg) or specify the full path in the command. Is "kernel26-2.6.32.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz in the cache? Or is it kernel26-2.6.32.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz?

ok so by posting the full location of the kernel i was able to downgrade, although it did not change anything,, still no usb.
how can i find a list of all the packages upgraded in the last -Syu?
besides that update the last thing i did besides that update was rebuild my vboxdrv, so i would assume i must have updated with a bad package since it is not a kernel thing? any other ideas?

For a full list look in /var/log/pacman.log.

is there any simpler way to do a full downgrade other than eachindividual package?

You will find the pacman hitory for upgrades in /var/log/pacman/log.
I suggest that you may have downloaded an xz package and your system does not have pacman upgraded to handle xz. You may need xz-utils as well.

I have this exact problem, which manifested itself on 2010-03-20, around 18:00.
I'm on x86_64, by the way.

Forlornly, I -Syu'd today, and happily saw a new usbutils package. Upon a reboot my issue was fixed - my mouse is now recognized again!
So for me, it's solved, though I don't know about aaron.kilbride
