Arch works fine on my A1 for the most part, but the battery bleeds like crazy. We're talking around an hour from a full charge to dead. I've configured acerhdf, enabled USB suspend etc, and use barely any resources (running xfce4).
PowerTOP output (battery is at exactly 50%):
PowerTOP version 1.11 (C) 2007 Intel Corporation
Cn Avg residency P-states (frequencies)
C0 (cpu running) (14.8%) 1.60 Ghz 13.0%
polling 0.0ms ( 0.0%) 1333 Mhz 0.4%
C1 halt 0.0ms ( 0.0%) 1066 Mhz 1.3%
C2 0.4ms ( 0.4%) 800 Mhz 85.3%
C3 2.5ms (84.8%)

Any ideas?

What's the condition of the battery? (After ~18 months, mine is down to 40% capacity, and lasts less than an hour).

Yep, same thing with my girlfriends One 150.
