Hey, I received these warnings from pacman during an upgrade:
[2010-02-20 13:24] warning: directory permissions differ on var/run/gdm/
filesystem: 1775 package: 1777
[2010-02-20 13:24] warning: directory permissions differ on var/log/gdm/
filesystem: 1770 package: 755
Any idea what they mean?:/

Are you asking why pacman warns you if the package permissions differ from those of the filesystem, or are you asking what the specific permissions (e.g. 1777) mean? The former sounds like sensible behaviour, for the latter see 'man chmod'.
Good ideas do not need lots of lies told about them in order to gain public acceptance.

Yeah grey, it's the former i'm referring to. I know what permissions are.
Thanks n0dix for those links! That's precisely what it is.
