I have a networked HP OfficeJet Pro K5400 that is refusing to print.
If I try and setup the printer via hp-setup it priduces the error:
Printer queue setup failed
Please restart CUPS and try again
Restarting CUPs has no effect.
I can configure it in CUPS but all print jobs just sit in the queue. Once I have set it up in CUPS and run hp-toolbox I get the following errors:
Printer queue stopped (700)
Device communication error (5012)
Thanks for any help.

True. I have looked through many, many results from google but all either don't fix the issue or apply to a USB connected printer.
I posted to this group just hoping someone may have had the same issue and could help.
Thanks for your reply though.

I have an HP Officejet pro 8000 networked via built in Wifi. With hplip, cups, hal-cups-utils installed the printer was recognized and configured automagically using http://localhost:631 in firefox. Just clicked add printer and there it was.
Don't break the silence unless you can improve upon it.

Sorry to ask the obvious, but have you looked at the CUPS wiki page?

SOLVED
Cofiguring the printer via CUPS would not work. Initially configuring via hp-setup would not work either. However changing the network discovery mode to SLP solved the problem.

Not help for me. Have the same error but can add printer only when add myself to root group. But even after that the printer does not work - tasks are simply added to the queue and not printed. I have HP Photosmart C6200 series.
Please, help me
