EVE with wine?

so, I am having some problems getting eve to work with wine.  it might not be configured right, but I can run castle of the winds in wine (which is not nearly as demandng as eve, graphically)

anyways, I get eve to open, and it gets to the terms and conditions and freezes.  The text only shows up in the terms and conditions if I wait for like half an hour, otherwise its just a black window with: scroll to the bottom to continue and the login thing at the bottom

Also, the background doesn't show up.

EDIT: an additional note, I have an ATI Radeon X1400 mobility and the drivers are installed along with libgl and mesa

you can try and install a little app named "playonlinux" its a wine frontend and it will take most of the work again, pretty good and there is an Archlinux package in their website. Try it out and come back with results.

I think the whole issue is my "opengl" drivers, but I have checked and reinstalled everything, and the 3d test through playonlinux works just fine, I have no idea what's wrong

well, I installed the directx dll's but still no luck.

the trend seems to be that ATI simply fails and that I need NVidia.

there are people who have gotten it to work under ati though, I just don't know how.  anything I can test to isolate what's wrong?

You could always try my crossover games package in the AUR.  A simple click choosing EvE online from the list and it'll set everything up for you.  It's a paid for app, but you get a 7 day trial that can you register (or not), but it uses a modified wine so if it works you know that wine (or PlayOnLinux, but I haven't really used POL that much) *can* work for you.

I would point the finger firmly at ATI though, I swapped out my X1950 for an 8800GT purely to get some proper driver support!

I have a nvidia graphics, and Im going to install eve in a while so I will come back here with results (as soon as I get home).

Ok im downloading the Offline installer now. Found this on the EVE site sausage, check it out and see if that helps you.

UPDATE: Could not get it to work also, It hangs at the load screen where it says "EVE Online: Dominion" and then just stays in the virtual desktop showing nothing.

Hop over to the EVE Online Linux Forums and you'll find several guides along with fixes for EVE w/ Wine 1.1.41. I suspect that'd be the best place to look. My EVE is running fine still so I'm guessing it's either your version of Wine or that you're missing required DLLs.
