[SOLVED] X Window System error, multiple applications affected.

Greetings community.

For the last few weeks, I've been experiencing mysterious
application crashes. So far, Seamonkey, Geany and Pidgin
are affected. e17 reports and application error, but offers
no meaningful information about the cause.

I have yet to be able to record steps for reproduction of
these crashes, which seem to happen arbitrarily. I have
however, captured the output of a Seamonkey crash as
I was running it from the terminal earlier:

The program 'seamonkey-bin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'RenderBadPicture (invalid Picture parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 575453 error_code 167 request_code 151 minor_code 7)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Has anyone else been experiencing this lately?

Can anyone offer some insight into what's causing the
problem?

I am getting the same error but only with Seamonkey. I am running e16 1.0.2.

What version of Seamonkey are you running?
I'm running 2.0.3, the latest stable build.

I'm not sure now whether this is a Seamonkey
bug or an Enlightenment bug...

Just reporting the same SeaMonkey's crash with the 'RenderBadPicture' message error.

In my case, the box is running Arch i686, with the latest version of SeaMonkey, and with the system fully actualized just one hour before.

I'm running JWM, for the record.

@ renuvio

Do you use Pidgin or Geany? Are you getting this same problem
with any other applications?

I'm trying to discern what's causing these problems. My system
is fully up to date, and build e17 from SVN using easy_e17.sh.

Someone somewhere must know what's causing this.

Re: [SOLVED] X Window System error, multiple applications affected.

Just from googling around, others have reported the issue with
iceweasel, so that makes it Pidgin, Geany, Seamonkey and
iceweasal.

Does anyone know what the applications have in common?
GTK? No one seems to have found a fix for it yet. It's getting
really annoying having Geany and Seamonkey just disappear
seemingly at random.

Same thing is happening to my seamonkey, (latest build) but not to my pidgin...
It's pretty annoying

Do we know if this is arch related? Seamonkey works fine on my cent server?

Anyhoo for me it seems to crash more often on image/flash heavy pages than just plan Jane text pages.

@ultra_violence:

Sorry for the late response.

No, i'm not an pidgin user; i use Geany sometimes, but just to edit very quickly some config file, but i didn't notice that fail there.

I've posted this over on the Seamonkey Bugs forum
on MozillaZine. You can follow it here:

I'll post any fixes they come up with here for anyone
else searching the forums.

Fix works for me. Marking as solved.

I'll put up with it for Geany and Pidgin until Cairo is fixed.

Re: [SOLVED] X Window System error, multiple applications affected.

Yes same here did as per the bug report;

ABS got the files, nano edited the mozconfig file by deleting the line "--enable-system-cairo" as instructed, nano edited the PKGBUILD file by hashing out the checksum lines, then ran makepkg -s --skipinteg, there was a non fatal warning about the missing checksums but other than that it compiled & made the package OK, then just installed with pacman -U "complete path to the new package".

Thanks to all & the forums in general again for the assistance:-)
