Change local repo to new xz format? (Solved)
Can the existing packages in a local repo be changed to xz from the native gz format?
Can this be done by changing the extension and re-installing?

1) Why would you need to reinstall, the installed files have been uncompressed and untarred anyway?
2) Just gunzip and run xz on the gunzipped tarballs, easy as that.

1: The files in my repo are .pkg.tar.gz and are of gz sizes. Thus, with new xz, a smaller size results. These are installed as needed from the repo, usually in a Live OS. Repo is raid array @ raid0.
2: Desire to ask pacman to Syu the packages to new xz format...simple as that.
