Hello,
I'm new to Arch linux, been using Ubuntu for two years and I'm looking for something else...
I'm trying to install Arch on my old laptop, which has a NTFS partition with winXP, IBM recover partition (I'd like to keep both) and one swap and one ext3 partitions that belong to ubuntu8.04.
I tried to install a few time using the "set mountpoint..." option usually setting the ext3 partition as "/;/boot;/home".
every time after installing some packages I get the "file exist in filesystem" and the installation program quits to the prompt.
I'd really like some help with the installation proccess, I don't like to wipe out the XP and the IBM partitions, and would also like to use just two partitions for arch (main and swap) which I already have on my HD.
Thanks, nirk

if you plan on putting arch on a single partition like ubuntu defaults to, you should just set the ext3 partition to "/" and not mount anything on /home or /boot

that was quick, thanks.
should I delete whats on the ext3 partition?

you'll need to format the partition during installation. The wiki has thorough instructions on how to do so.

thanks, I got arch linux running.
too bad I can't install Xorg now. (utils-linux-ng conplicts with e2fsprogs). I read in other post the the problam is probably because the system isn't up to date.
I ran "pacman -Syy" after finishing the installation process, souldn't that be all I need to get the system updated and be able to install Xorg without any conflicts?
thanks again, nirk
edit:
pacman -Syy
pacman -Syu
ofcousre...

"pacman -Syy" just forces an update of the database. You want "pacman -Syu" to do the update.
