XFCE and Compiz cause Thunar problems

Everything worked just fine before I install compiz.  Now when I open a folder on my desktop (or open thunar from the menu) I can open one folder in it and the content of that folder is then shown fine but all files and folder within are unclickable.  I can use a workaround right now by right clicking the folder and selecting "Open in a New Windows" and continue doing that until I am where I need to be.  But I want my browser to work properly without having to clutter my desktop with loads of useless windows.  Any ideas on that?

PS:  When I have an "unclickable" thunar window - everything still works (navigation buttons, drop-down menus with all it's functions, ...), except for opening files or folders.
