I'm not sure if its too much work for the devs to post up a list of packages needing rebuild to [arch-dev-public] for big rebuilds like this. Users can then compare that list with the packages installed in their system, and it would be pretty safe to -Syu if all matches appear in [testing]?

For example, if the up-coming heimdal rebuild affects 20 packages, but I only have 4 of those installed, I'd just grep [testing] for those 4, and -Syu once they appear. Would help a bit in getting early testing for packages which get build (though for a library bump don't know if testing is all THAT important, its not like it can be downgraded again anyway).

I posted the list earlier in the thread but I wonder if we can make the lists viewable by everyone.

I did the deed. Enough of my system is working, so I don't know if anything is broken yet.

Nice work devs!

Re: WARNING - openssl rebuild in [testing]

We know all packages that require rebuilding and they will eventually get done.

Re: WARNING - openssl rebuild in [testing]

No - [testing] users are expect to read arch-dev-public.  I only posted it here because people really needed to take notice this time.

Then I cannot believe that I used [testing] without reading arch-dev-public all this time wink Okay, I will be better from now.

Has what been fixed yet? Your contribution to this thread so far is:

so it might be an idea to describe your particular issue(s) - but only AFTER you have acted on the standard advice regarding the testing repo, as described here and various other places.

Re: WARNING - openssl rebuild in [testing]

There are still some rebuilds not done (exim at least is one of them).

Devs, how did you manage to ship out all these packages so fast without causing a huge slowdown in mirror syncing?

Yes please. I'm sure on your internal mailing lists the list goes out in some shape or form anyway, so a cc to [arch-dev-public] would help. Based on the list you posted in this thread I've identified exactly which packages would be broken on my system, hence I can make an informed decision when to switch (openoffice ftl sad ).

Re: WARNING - openssl rebuild in [testing]

openoffice works somewhat without the rebuild...  well, I have done some basic stuff and do not know what is broken.  Your mileage may vary...

That actually appears to be about the icu update instead... If you take the new icu, at least go-oo won't start at all. I haven't seen the icu rebuild list, so hopefully go-oo is on there...

Not possible.. I believe it was posted on ML BEFORE  you were able to update (pkgs pushed to repos).

@PAdu92  I know you post was tounge in cheek,  but the devs are quite good about warning  "us stupid people"(includes me)  BEFORE we can break our systems.

PLEASE read and try to FIX/FILE BUGS instead of assuming other have/will.

Correct.  The warning on arch-dev-public was posted a few hours before any packages hit our master server.

have you tried downgrading the packages using pacman from livecd before reinstalling? It helped me, and left my system unfresh and bloated. Btw using pacman with an alternative installation root is great and really simple. Kudos to pacman devs.

Re: WARNING - openssl rebuild in [testing]

Alright, I'm confused.  I'm running Arch in a VM just to tinker with it, and as far as I know I haven't enabled any "testing" repo.

However, I did a "Pacman -Syu" under an hour ago and got hit with this system breaking problem.

Are some mirrors "testing" and some not?  I was using http://archlinux.unixheads.org/$repo/os/x86_64, and the packages from it broke my system. (mostly the new openssl...)
I checked the pacman status list and found that ftp.ibiblio...etc.etc. was more up to date, yet its packages aren't the "break my system" ones.  I switched to it, and I've just downgraded the broken packages and things are working again.

What's going on?

Also, do things like this happen often with Arch?  I'm just trying to get a feel for the distribution.

Re: WARNING - openssl rebuild in [testing]

The packages have moved to the main repos now.  You are best to open a new thread asking for help.
