[sort of SOLVED] Terminator 0.91 now ignores its own config

[sort of SOLVED]

It's the vte package causing all the problems. I just upgraded Terminator to 0.91 again, leaving vte at 0.22.5-1, and it's fine. It does ignore colour settings and what not, but I figure that's better than crashing and not working.

~~~
Today's updates brought me terminator 0.91 (which I thought I already had)
It now ignores it's config and loads completely transparent with white text.
CTRL+SHIFT+T which should give a new tab in fact now crashes Terminator.
Terminator now has a GUI set of preferences and adjusting these does alter the config file, but these settings are still ignored by terminator.
Not that this should matter, but it may, I'm on Openbox
EDIT:
Tried so far...
Deleting all configs.
Making new configs
Making new profile
...so far nothing has altered this new default look of 'completely transparent background and white text'
Re: [sort of SOLVED] Terminator 0.91 now ignores its own config
Same problem here, but didn't investigated very much.
Terminator crashes on every keybind to create new tabs or split windows and ignores config file.
However the syntax of the config file has changed, so older config files can't work anymore: check man terminator_config for details.
Probaly the safer way to configure it is to edit the config file (with the new syntax and options) and then start terminator: the GUI preferences windows is a lot buggy, cashes and doesn't save anything.
I'm quite sure these bugs will be fixed soon, the developer is very active. In the meantime I switched back to Terminal. wink
I've got the same problem too. Downgrading doesn't work either.
[edit] I'm using gnome
Re: [sort of SOLVED] Terminator 0.91 now ignores its own config
Same here. Transparent and it breaks whenever i try to split screen.
One notice. It seams that terminator is not transparent when i fired him up. Let me explain. I had one terminator session opened when i changed background color and opened new terminator session. New one had the same background as my new background and the old one had old background. So i don't know how terminator works, did it cache background or what. Transparency is disabled by default and when I enable transparency in gui then I have not so transparent terminal depending on transparency level in configuration.
edit.
Where is a terminator config file?  One is in the .config/terminator but that's the one that u get using gui editor. There must be one which is a default and which overrides by .config/teminator/config when exist since I have been deleted .config/terminator/config and the new one havent been created when I fired up terminator.
Re: [sort of SOLVED] Terminator 0.91 now ignores its own config
Would anyone know any alternatives to Terminator, providing the same "tiling" support?
I figure this is the place to ask. I won't be using Terminator anymore due to this recent update breaking everything.
Edit: To those who experience the problem after downgrading, downgrade the vte package as well. I went back to 0.22.5-1 and it is all better now, just like before the upgrade.
http://archlinux.umflint.edu/extra/os/ this mirror has the old version as of now for those who clear their cache.
Edit again: It's the vte package causing all the problems. I just upgraded Terminator to 0.91 again, leaving vte at 0.22.5-1, and it's fine. It does ignore colour settings and what not, but I figure that's better than crashing and not working.
Thank you, Hiram! I just downloaded the vte-package from that mirror, installed it with pacman -Uf and after restarting terminator it works flawlessly again! smile
THANK YOU! Hiram for the fix.
It was really starting to tick me off that it wasn't working correctly.
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
Re: [sort of SOLVED] Terminator 0.91 now ignores its own config
@Hiram
I'm using Terminal (xfce) and tmux.
tmux is a terminal multiplexer with many advanced features, including splitting windows into panes.
It's much more powerful (and stable) than terminator but is not that user-friendly and requires a bit more of reading the manual and tweaking the config file.
Cheers,
The vte 0.24.0-2 update seems to have fixed the problem for me!
Re: [sort of SOLVED] Terminator 0.91 now ignores its own config
Terminator was segfaulting on startup for me yesterday but works perfect with the vte update.
Thanks to who ever did the work to debug and fix it.
Prompt service !
Re: [sort of SOLVED] Terminator 0.91 now ignores its own config
Confirming the latest vte update solves terminator crashes.
Still some problems with saving configuration via gui.
The worst thing about this release, however, is the new behaviour of the hide titlebar option. sad
