lirc 2.6.32 support

I had a working lirc config back in 2.6.31 days. I wanted to try somethig today and realised that lirc doesn't work. I have a thinkpad t41. Infrared is allowed in the bios and using 0x2f8 irq3. The lirc_serial module is configured accordingly and loads without a problem after setserial /dev/ttyS1 uart none. Lircd starts ok, but irw doesn't do anything, nor does irsend. Even mode2 -d /dev/lirc0 or cat /dev/lirc0 don't do anything...

Setup: kernel26-2.6.32.8-1 lirc-0.8.6-3

Am I the only one having issues with lirc and the 2.6.32 kernel line? I found out, that there is a special patch for lirc and this kernel line in the PKGBUILD...

Re: lirc 2.6.32 support

I am facing the same problem. I recently bought an ENLTV-FM card (Encore) with remote control, then I installed lirc following the wiki, but after some attempts I realized that lirc was not working. The remote control works by ir_common module, but not properly. I tried to configure my remote control using xkbmode (since I discovered the remote control keys have keycodes) but I could not do it. I think I really need lirc working. Have you made that patch work?

H Open Source says infra-red infrastructure has seen some major changes in 2.6.33 http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/ … 31993.html

You need to install an RTFM interface.

No you aren't the only one with the problem. I too had a problem updating to 2.6.32 and lirc. I use a hauppauge remote worked great with .31, but bombed out with .32. I wish I had a fix, but I don't. I'll keep hoping someone has a fix for it down the road soon.

Readings from the lirc website states that it is only compatible with the .31 kernel. I just went back to the .31 kernel. It's frustrating with every kernel release that something new breaks. It almost seems that the new kernels releases are regressing and not progressing.

Well, the fact that I am not the only somehow calms me. I now know that it is not because of my stupidity that it doesn't work.
So let's hope that it will be fixed asap.

Re: lirc 2.6.32 support

Any news here? Last time I tried an uptime (last week or so), my remote (Hauppauge PVR-250) still did not work with the current kernel. It's annoying having to downgrade the kernel after every pacman update.

Re: lirc 2.6.32 support

Nobody? Really? This thing is starting to annoy me. With every update I get more and more trouble, when downgrading the kernel, because more and more dependent packages need to be downgraded, too. There has to be a solution for this.

The other solution would be to buy a new remote. Does anyone know a cheap remote control, which works with new lirc and kernel versions?
