Hi!
I think this happened with the latest kernel upgrade?
now at boot up, when alsa loads it shows an error:
Unknown hardware: "HDA-Intel" "Realtek ALC268" "HDA:numbersss, numbersss, numbersss" "hexavalue" "hexavalue"
any idea?

mmmmmm
I tried doing a alsactl store... and the error at boot up disappears... but not the problem, there is no sound...
then I tried doing a alsaconf... none
then I tried adding options snd-hda-intel model=ALC268 to the /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf file... none
alsamixer shows all regular... unmute... good levels...
it is a dell vostro 1710...

I have the same problem following the recent kernel upgrade, but curiously sound continues to work fine.
This is on an unbranded laptop.

I have the same problem but only with Banshee and Amarok. HDA-intel fails.
Sound works well with gmusicbrowser and everywhere else.

I have an ALC268. I have model=auto in /etc/modprobe/modprobe.conf and everything works, alsamixer shows all the sliders (Master, Headphone, Speaker, PCM, etc...), and they all work. This is on an Acer Aspire One A110L.

yep... I have tried that...
options snd-hda-intel index=0
then tried
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
(and model laptop, and model dell)
then tried
options snd-hda-intel model=auto enable=1 index=0
/etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf have this
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
there is no error... it is like alsa "sees" the card, but just play to "nothing"?...
the user is in audio group (as it was before, when all was working ok)
it is not muted...
no idea what to do

mmmm, I was wrong... then I run an alsaconf
and now it says that there is no sound card...
edit: it was oss,... but anyway, I have reverted the oss settings... Im in alsa again... soundcard is detected... but just play nothing...
