I am currently experimenting with DWM, and I must say I like it. One downside is that I haven't found a way to link file extensions to applications. For example, when I download a file in Chrome, I want to be able to click on it and open it right away. Suggestions are welcome!

I suppose you could do this by using a file-manager like pcmanfm to do this.
The browser will have to be set to open any file with the fm and there you can set file associations.
You could also set the single extension rules within your browser, I guess, but the first way would allow you to use the file-manager as a reference for other programs as well.
Would be nice to know if there is a good script to manage associations.
UPDATE: xdg-open from the xdg-utils package might do this, too. Bit more lightweight than installing a whole filebrowser that you might not need at all
ANOTHERUPDATE: You might want to check this thread: link if you are going to try xdg. Haven't read it throughoutly but it seems helpful and it actually asks for a good opener (not only how to configure xdg)
