hi guys.
i've just turned on my arch 64 system after updating last night (or possibly the day before...) and when i get to the gdm login the keyboard doesnt work. I can confirm the problem is not with the keyboard itself as i can still edit the boot options in grub. anyone else have this or have i broken something...
thanks in advance,
david
(edit: on screen keyboard doesnt seem to be working either)

When i upgraded today i got this warning:
WARNING: Failed to parse default value `' for schema (/schemas/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/indicator/fontSize)
Not sure if maybe that has to do with it?

managed to boot into single user mode and start networking. will try a pacman -Syu and see if that helps

no joy.. i was suspecting something with gnome. might try removing gdm and startx ing straight into KDE later on.

be sure that hald is starting. if it fails then that's your problem with keyboard. xorg doest detect any input devices.
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

hald wouldnt make a difference to the one screen keyboard in gdm would it? is there an easy way to check if its running?

I seem to be having this problem as well, using slim as my login manager.
Not sure what's wrong.

I could be wrong, but my understanding is hal would be needed as soon as X starts - so yes it could affect login with gdm. That would also fit with it not working in slim or starting xterm.
If you're pretty sure it's related to the updates it might be helpful to post the parts of pacman.log that are relevant so we can see what exactly got updated.

The answer was somewhere in hotplugging and the fdi file. The file wasnt in /etc/ but hotplugging wasnt disabled in xorg.conf
I went back to basics and ran through the beginners guide starting here
I also created a new xorg.conf previous to this but to no avail so i'm putting my money on the fdi file. hope that helps darose. Thanks for the suggestions guys, i think i'll check up the pacman.log later just to see.
