Arch is installing from CD (image is verified as I've tested it in two other machines). Basically it gets to "Loading Initrd.img......" from the boot prompt, then reboots. I had to unplug the system speaker just because I've heard it post one too many times. Never gotten this one before. Any help is appreciated.
Oh btw, the machine has a new windows xp installation on it right now (planning to dual boot) and is running fairly stable.

Try using a LiveCD and see if the same thing happens. It's still possible that the CD is screwed somehow. Try testing with something like Knoppix or DSL or Archie.

Downloading Knoppix right now [my old copy has soda on the bottom (quite literally a coaster I guess.)] I also booted via floppy, which yielded the same result - however with the floppy it reached the "Bios Verifcation" thing then it rebooted.

Ok, Knoppix boots great just like windows, arch doesn't. It won't load via CD or floppy boot. I'm really stumped here.

Try burning the CD again. Sounds like a corrupted disk.

yes.
The standard iso image is for i686 and above. There is limited support for i586, dont know how to go about the iso though....

The first one has a link to an iso. The second one is about other users currently building packages for i586.

Alright, thanks to all for your help. Before I install this arch i586 distro though, should I expect the high level of performance that arch usually provides, or do you think that maybe another distro would be more appropriate on this particular machine?
