I'm sorry, but I am an Archlinux novice.
I need Hellanzb (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Hellanzb), but it is not available. According to the Arch wiki (see link above) it is better to get yaourt to get it. Well, I thought, may as well download yaourt. But even yaourt is not there.
Yet it is there in Aura! (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=5863)
Loads of them! (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?O … 0&K=yaourt)
As is hellanzb...(http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?O=0&K=hellanzb&do_Search=Go)
So why won't pacman fetch it for me?
I have a default pacman.conf and I have loads of mirrors in the mirrolist - Europe, USA, India and Japan.
I have gone through all the mirrors, rotating them so that each gets a chance to be first in the mirrorslist and each time I have done "pacman -Syy".
I don't understand and it is frustraing as I am trying to set up my Archlinux installation like my Slackware installation so that I can use it.
Sorry for the rant...

you can't pull packages from AUR, just build scripts (PKGBUILD) that'll let you build a package from source easily.
check makepkg man page for more detailed information.
edit/ this may be helpful too: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AUR

Thanks bangkok_manouel, I didn't realise that - I thought the "community" group was AUR. My bad.

Harry, since you're the topic starter, you can edit your own post (the start post) and change the title yourself. No need to report your own topic
