cannot log in after upgrade[SOLVED]

I was using kdemod and could not start up after today's upgrade. I saw on various threads that kdemod was broken, so I saw this as a good opportunity to switch desktop environments. I deleted kdemod and installed Xfce4. Unfortunately, I can't log in at all at this point. It goes through the startup and opens up Slim, but when I type my user name and password into Slim it just brings back Slim. Furthermore, when I type "console" into Slim, I get a black screen with an "X" for a cursor, and no ability to type commands in the terminal. What can I do about this?

I cannot even seem to get to a terminal so that I can edit files or remove recently added items.

Ctrl-Alt-F{1-6} doesn't work?

Or, you can always boot into run level 3...

Oh, yeah, I get a terminal with that.

Any idea what I should delete to get my desktop to work? Unfortunately, I carelessly updated a lot of things at once this afternoon, so I am not sure where the problem lies.

Oh, turns out I am having a stupid day. I opened xinitrc and uncommented startxfce4, but I guess I forgot to save changes. All in all, sorry for wasting your time.
