I had same problem http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=94902 .As i had installed new version of openssl but not for xorg-server.
I followed same procedure but was able to login.I updated my system fully.But now system have small issue that if i click on default gnome icons like computer ,home or network server.It will just open window once, just a blink and close it. other icons on desktop work fine and if i open home , computer from place menu in top panel. It work fine.

Also , when i click message to be marked as read in evolution.It also crashes without a trace.
