Right now I'm in the middle of a stint with Ubuntu 10.04, but I want to come back to Arch. I'm hoping my 3D performance will improve. Right now, I only get 25 fps or so in Urban Terror. Quake Live is probably 20-some. D3D in WINE is useless, though games like Deus Ex and Unreal Tournament run alright, but could be better.
In Ubuntu 10.04, I'm using 2.6.32, Intel's 2.11 driver, and Mesa 7.9.
Is it likely that a different combination in Arch would provide better performance? And if so, what?

1280x800 low graphic details - 30-40fps...
xf86-video-intel 2.11
kernel 2.6.33/2.6.34-rc3
mesa 7.8.1
xserver 1.8
Performance was roughly the same with xserver 1.7 and mesa 7.7
Noticed the huge performance jump since kernel 2.6.32.8 and 2.6.33...

Hmm...I simply can't play games at that resolution right now with that kind of framerate. Even if I lower settings to the lowest, at 1280x800 (or even 1024x768) I really can't get a solid 30fps. I can play games at 800x600 with max settings with mostly 30-40fps though (cept urban terror, at 800x600 I need texture detail at normal for 30 to 40 fps).
Maybe if I was able to upgrade my kernel...
UPDATE: Installed 2.6.34RC3 from ubuntu's mainline kernel server. No noticeable performance change, but I lost support for my wireless, so it's no good for me anyway.
