Wait, so did you combine KDE with another window manager? I am thinking about changing back to Xmonad or something like that... But I really do like Kmail and some other programs, which unfortunately start a helluvalot other services. Guess you don't really mind that?

Re: April 2010 screenshots

wow, surprised scrotwm is catching on... Was thinking about it, but dynamic tiling window managers don't really appeal to me anymore...

Stalafan: KDE, GNOME, and XFCE are all just desktop environments. They have little components, including a window manager, that can be swapped with something else. This is how people can do KDE/GNOME/XFCE + compiz (a window manager). You can change KWin (KDE), metacity (GNOME), xfcwm (XFCE), etc and replace it with Xmonad, Openbox, ratpoison, etc. pick your poison.

I am well aware of that. It's just that having a lightweight window manager combined with a heavy desktop environment does not make too muc sense to me. In fact, I wonder to what extent ressources are saved by moving from kwin to openbox.

Could you tell me which wicd icon theme you're using, (or upload them if those are custom too) and also how to get the nice looking thing in the top right. (I'm assuming its conky, any chance of the file?) Thanks.

Nope, just KDE in that shot. Just getting really bored of how un-customizable KDE is...

It's basically in the second screenshot. Just use gimp to paint over the panel with black color.

Well, I've been using my laptop as an experimental ground for new configurations and here is my attempt to switch to Awesome on my desktop after some configuration (mostly keybindings and stuff).

desktop_t.png

There are still lots of things I need to do.  I'm having a lot of weird bugs with certain applications like Firefox opening up on the wrong screen (even though it shows up on the tasklist of the other screen).
