So I've decided I want to make a mixtape after wondering why I stopped. I want to do it well however, splice the tracks up, and properly beat match them etc. So I was wondering what kind of software is there out there for this kind of thing?
I would love to have the following things:
*Beat matching - a must - by pitch conservation methods or just changing the speed (is there any software that takes a collection of tracks and tells me the best order to minimize changes to the beat?)
*Track splicing - take sections cut them up and overlay them after some beat matching etc
*Basic drum machine/synth functions - anything where I can splice up a drum beat and resequence with the drum machine would be amazing
Anything else you can suggest would be great as well.

You could try lmms (linux multimedia studio). You can create beats and melodies and can also use audio files on a separate track.

Check out my Arch based live distro http://fluxcapacity.99k.org

I agree. I'm also using lmms and it rocks.
