GL screensavers

I find that neither xscreensaver nor KDE 3.4 can use GL screensavers. Something about a GLX extension. Is there a way for me to install something to allow me to use such screensavers?

Re: GL screensavers

How about posting what video card you are using and the relavent sections from your /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

Re: GL screensavers

Assuming you are not using the nvidia or ati driver, you can enable the GLX extension in xorg.conf.  The file is well documented so it shouldn't be hard to find the option you want.  I will warn you that unless your using the nvidia or ati official drivers, you will not get good performance.  The CPU will be performing the work, not the video card and hence the majority of the GL screensavers are very slow.

I have nothing to say, and I am saying it.

Ah. Didn't know this had anything to do with my video card, and thus my xorg.conf file. I'm running with built-in i810 video. From what I gather from smith's reply, it's probably not useful for me to enable this in my xorg.conf file.

Re: GL screensavers

I used to have an i810, enabling GL will allow the screensavers to run..but don't expect the performance to be too hot.

The suggestion box only accepts patches.

Re: GL screensavers

I found that many GL screensavers are missing from xscreensaver package itself.  For example many screensavers found on  http://www.linuxhotbox.com/fun/Linux%20 … rs%205.htm are not installed as reported by xscreensaver itself.
