Hello to all!
Since several days I am trying on Archlinux, and so far everything seems fine, except some questions open.
One of them is this:
The output of dmesg consist mainly of endless lines like:
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] CDB: cdb[0]=0x28: 28 00 00 00 00 30 00 00 02 00
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 192
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : 0x5 [current]
Info fld=0x60
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] ASC=0x64 ASCQ=0x0
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] CDB: cdb[0]=0x28: 28 00 00 00 00 60 00 00 02 00
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 384
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : 0x5 [current]
Info fld=0x60
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] ASC=0x64 ASCQ=0x0
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] CDB: cdb[0]=0x28: 28 00 00 00 00 60 00 00 02 00
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 384
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : 0x5 [current]
Info fld=0x62
and I have no Idea what this might be...
Any hints?
Thanks for help
Martin

Welcome to the forums Martin. It's a good idea to search for stuff - have you seen this thread?

Thanks for your welcome! Well, I have seen it now and don't see any help for the moment. btw what did you take for search keywords? I did search, but found no relevant results up to now (embarrassing, ahem).
Its not like there is no input in dmesg, but those lines flood it as you know. It ends with
Info fld=0x420
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] ASC=0x64 ASCQ=0x0
sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] CDB: cdb[0]=0x28: 28 00 00 00 04 20 00 00 02 00
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 4224

It's some issue with your CD/DVD drive. If it is working correctly (mounting, playing, burning disks etc), then I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it is not working properly, then you would need to describe what is going wrong.

you'r right... with cd in, it's like posted, without, dmesg is like normal. There are no other issues for the moment, thank you very much for your quick help!

No problem. Can you prepend [Solved] to the thread title? It makes it easy for others to see that you got it sorted.

I have similar errors in the dmesg output:
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 119296

they happen after I try to mount a burned CD with a budned .iso file in the /media/cd . The .iso is of the Fedora 12 Live CD and when I start it in Virtualbox I get the same errors during boot which fails afterwards. I will try to burn the .iso on another machine that is running Ubuntu (soon to be Arch) to see if there is something wrong with the CD burning setup. Can someone remove [SOLVED] please?
I have burned the .iso with the Recorder GUI app, and with
wodim -v dev=/dev/cdrw Fedora-12-x86_64-Live.iso

Please open a new topic linking this one as a reference if you want. This has already been marked solved, so chances that anyone will view it grow slimmer by the minute. It's a miracle I'm here.
I need real, proper pen and paper for this.
