Basket downgrade gets error on pkg file

The recent upgrade of basket broke it for me and the forum solution of transferring from .kde to .kde4 isn't working, it won't recognize it. So I want to downgrade to the old version so I can try exporting the baskets. So I downloaded the previous package, but I noticed it has a .gz extension and the new ones have a .xz extension. When I enter:

pacman -U basket-1.0.3.1-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz

I get this error message:
error: 'basket-1.0.3.1-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz': cannot open package file

How can I fix this? I really need the information in this application.
