I don't ussually have a white theme, but my eeepc with very low screen brightness has better visibility with a white theme than with a black one.

Meh, i got bored of openbox...Too much work involved for a lazy person like me...
Though it did inspire me to dump KDE for Gnome once more

I'd recommend cairo dock. It is in the AUR and fits well with gnome. (IMO)

You should try new avant window navigator 0.4 for gnome. It's in community repository.
I think it's cleaner that cairo dock and have lots of functionality.
