Man that title made no sense, sorry. Character limitation, can only put so much in there. Anyway.
I'm running Synergy+ as the server on my desktop with Windows 7, where my primary mouse is the Logitech Trackman Marble Mouse,
and as client on my Eee PC with Arch Linux.
On Windows, I use Marble Scroll to make the trackball into a scroll wheel when I hold the small left button down. In openSUSE on my desktop, uh well that uses HAL now and I haven't been able to figure out how to get that working right, but that's not relevant here.
Now, I can get Synergy+ working, but... when I bring the cursor to the Eee, the Marble Mouse behaves like it would *without* Marble Scroll. This is to be expected. But after following the instructions here and restarting X (as well as swapping numbers so it's the left instead of the right small button, and changing "ExplorerPS/2" to "auto") nothing changes. Do I need to use HAL now? Or does synergy just... treat every mouse as a generic one?
Maybe I should invest in a Kensington instead.
EDIT: No it is not possible

While I have no idea what you are talking about (sorry, but I've never had a marble mouse) I found the current wiki situation rather confusing with excellent info buried under obscure mouse names (note: must bring it all together one of these days...)
So, just to share this great howto: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Logitech_MX1000 - the greatest snippet is the "Map The Mouse Buttons to the Desired Functions".
With it you should be able to determine the number of each mouse button and map the desired functionality to it.

A quick search for "marble" or "trackman" in the arch-wiki would have taken you to the page http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Log … rble_Mouse. Maybe this helps you.

Whoops. When I said "the instructions here" I meant to link to the page you just linked to, muunleit. Will fix that now.

Is the trackball shown by
xinput list
if you use synergy+ instead of hal?
If it is, have you tried the the 'xinput-method'? I'm not sure if this method needs hal.

With or without Synergy+ running, regardless of whether Synergy+ and Marble Mouse is controlling cursor:
xinput list

Then you need HAL for the latter methods of the wiki, I think.
With HAL the trackball is shown up in xinput like this
xinput list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
....
⎜ ↳ Logitech USB Trackball id=9 [slave pointer (2)]
