I've omitted most dependencies to shorten that list. If a package is requested I'll be happy to install it as long as it is reasonable and secure.
You'll be free to run web applications in Python, Ruby, Perl, PHP, etc. You will automatically have a PostgreSQL account with the ability to create databases and if requested you will also be given your own LDAP tree. In addition you'll also have an email account that can be forwarded or accessed via IMAP or POP3.
Feel free to compile software. There's also a whole slew of mathematical, statistical, and scientific software installed so feel free to run mathematical simulations etc.
Each server has a 3GB /tmp partition of which most likely 2.8GB will be accessible to users who need the space temporarily (for compilation, etc.). I'm thinking right now that I'd like to allocate 256MB to each users to start off with and see how things work out from there.
Uptime so far hasn't been fantastic but the servers have been undergoing a lot of changes lately so once everything is set I'm anticipating pretty good uptime.
Basically all I'm asking for in return is that if you see a security hole or something stupid to let me know. I don't expect anyone to look for anything at all but if something happens to catch your attention please forward your concerns to me. Thanks.
Important: I've a new idea I'd like to try out. It turns out that a lot of people only want the account to do some SSH tunneling, which is fine with me but they really won't be using their allotted disk space. The way it works now everyone is guaranteed 256MB of space. If I put any more users on this server I can't guarantee that. In terms of bandwidth, CPU, IO, and RAM however many more users should be able to fit on this server without any problems. Therefore when you request an account (and also for those of you already with them), please specify which option you would like. I will offer 24MB, 96MB, and 256MB accounts.
Please make a reasonable estimate as to how much disk space you will use. You will be able to "upgrade" or "downgrade" later but please make a reasonable estimate now because changing that option later is a lot of work for me. Note that however much space you choose, you will be guaranteed this space but you will not be able to exceed it. Also remember that /tmp has 2.8GB and is the recommended place to do compiling and such.
A 24MB account should be plenty if all you are planning on using it for is SSH tunneling. The 96MB account should be quite sufficient for most purposes. The 256MB account will be needed if you are doing some heavy work.
If you'd like an account please reply to this thread or send me a private message. I need your first and last name as well as your email address. I also need to know whether or not you would like LDAP access. When your account is created you'll receive an email with your temporary password and the instructions for SSH'ing into your server. Please read the information in that email carefully.
Update: A lot of people have been asking for a specific username. The servers have a first.last name username scheme which I really like so unfortunately I can't accommodate this. As a compromise sometime soon I will add something like an alsoKnownAs LDAP attribute for each user that will allow you to log in using the username(s) of your choice. However in terms of the system your uid will still be you first.last name.
================================================
I'd just like to ask how everyone would like to receive information about server updates, scheduled downtime, and information about the systems' conditions in general. I was considering:
1. A blog with an RSS feed
2. Mailing list
3. Messages in the MOTD
4. A forum thread
What does everyone think?

I'm sure I'll find it extremely useful for ssh tunneling from open wifi (bit of a security freak ).

I really appreciate the offer.
Don't think I'll need SQL and LDAP.
I'm starting my way with ssh now and this could be a very good place to start practicing.
Thank you!
I sent you my name and email by email if you don't mind.

I would love to one, especially since it would be interesting to test things from inside of the US.

No need for SQL or LDAP or anything like that.
Thanks

I don't need SQL or LDAP, it will be more for the testing of mathematical stuff. Also I will use it for some IRCing (the sysadmins at university blocked a lot of port ranges, including IRC).
Please make the username renan if possible.
Thanks.

Why did not I think of asking for a specific username? :-(
/me wonders if that could be remedied...? Presuming you are going to let us pick. (named kiwi ofc, or digitalkiwi if that is taken...

Yeah I don't see why not. As far as I know the necessary ports are not blocked by my provider. No IRC bots are installed by default but you are free to install whatever you want in your home directory. It turns out the AUR PKGBUILD for eggdrop is broken but if someone contributes a working one I'll be happy to install it system wide.

I also have 2 Arch-running Linode's. They used to be in Newark as well, but with the new London DC, I've migrated. If there is enough demand (and if kaitocracy's offer expires) I can offer some accounts as well
