Should mostly just work fine if ok on Ubuntu. Read the Beginner's Guide on the Wiki on how to install.

Re: can i install arch on my vaio p-530

Too what extent your hardware is supported is decided by the kernel version. Of course some distributions like Ubuntu apply patches to the Vanilla Kernel to fix certain bugs or especially support more (and current) hardware although ArchLinux makes up for that by using a more recent kernel version. But in your case you shouldn't have any problems no matter which of the current distributions you choose because the modules for your hardware have been implemented years ago and therefore shouldn't differ on any distribution.
The only difference will be software support. For instance you might have to apply some work to get multimedia keys to work while the Gnome in Ubuntu might already ship with preconfigured hotkeys - idk.

Anyway, all the other things should work just as in Ubuntu.

Re: can i install arch on my vaio p-530

There are some issues with linux and the GMA500 since it uses a strange PowerVR chipset. It is apparently supposed to work ok with 3D acceleration on Ubuntu though and there are some drivers for it in the AUR which are the same that are in the ubuntu-mobile repo so I would recommend testing those.

I haven't lost my mind; I have a tape back-up somewhere.
