[SOLVED] Brightness on-screen display broken after GNOME 2.30 upgrade

I tried to find an existing thread on this, but I couldn't. This thread is similar, but the issue discussed there seems a bit different than mine. Here's my problem: I have a Dell Studio 1735 running Arch. Last night, I upgraded the system, bringing in a whole slew of package upgrades for GNOME 2.30. Since then, I can still change my display's backlight brightness using the Fn+Up and Fn+Down keyboard shortcuts, but nothing appears on the screen when I do so. Previously, changing the brightness this way would bring up an on-screen overlay notifying me of the new brightness level. These notifications still appear when I use the hotkeys on my keyboard to change the volume. Is anyone else seeing this bug? Also, what package is responsible for those on-screen messages in the first place?

I'm having this problem too. I see an update for upower is in the offing, I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I'm not sure about a solution, but are you using HAL? Does GNOME 2.30 use/require HAL?

Reason I ask is the answers may shed light on the issue, but again, I do not know.

gnome-power-manager 2.30.0-2 appears to have fixed this for me.

Sorry, I've been really busy these past couple weeks and haven't had time to update in the meantime. Anyway, I also confirm that the latest gnome-power-manager fixes this.
