well, I just downloaded and installed gnome 2.10 ...everything is fine...until I was going to try out the new transparent gnome-panel which shall make the whole panel transparent inc. the applets ..

however it does not, it only does transparent as before (not the applets..)

any idea why ?

Re: gnome-2.10 panel transparency???

I did my first ARchlinux install yesterday, and then I did a "pacman -S gnome   (and then added some extra packages that I wanted)

I have in my .xinitrc = exec gnome-session

and yes, I have restarted gnome (several times since)

Re: gnome-2.10 panel transparency???

This is my setup:

ArchLinux 0.7 (ftp install to current)
Gnome 2.10 (with pacman -S gnome)
Kernel is 2.6.11.3-ARCH
Xorg 6.8.2 (doesn't seem to make any difference whether I use Composite or not)
Nvidia 7176 (from nvidia homepage)
some additional packages like gftp, xine, totem, mplaye, mozilla firebird/thunderbird

and that is all
My computer is a Dell Inspiron 8500 (laptop) with a geforce4200go

I use swedish locale/keymaps and there are nothing strange in the rc.conf (as far as a know)

Re: gnome-2.10 panel transparency???

Doesn't composite need to be enabled for transparenct stuff? Or is it just for shadows?

Re: gnome-2.10 panel transparency???

Doesn't composite need to be enabled

I thought so, but this works for me on my ATI card, and the Composite extension doesn't even work when I turn it on.  Maybe resyncing gnome-panel might help?

If you develop an ear for sounds that are musical it is like developing an ego. You begin to refuse sounds that are not musical and that way cut yourself off from a good deal of experience.
