clear screen after reboot/shutdown

I followed the tip at the bottom of this wiki to clear the messages:

but recently it no longer works. I use the Openbox WM and for reboot and shutdown I use "sudo shutdown -r now && openbox --exit" and "sudo shutdown -h now && openbox --exit".
