After update, freeze at the boot

Hello,
I'm finally decided to install Archlinux on my laptop computer. The installation worked well, and all was right, until i update my packages with "pacman -Syu". The update worked, without any error, but when i reboot, the computer freeze after setting locales: the message "Setting Consoles to UTF-8 mode [busy]" still displayed.

Does somebody could help me?

Re: After update, freeze at the boot

Sorry that I cannot help you, but I got the same problem.
I'm using Arch x86-64 with the latest  updates (kernel 2.6.33).
I only found older posts with the same bug, but there was a bug fix for this...
Unfortunately I don't know after which update this started happening, but it must be one of the last weeks!
This freeze happens randomly, a hard reboot and the systems starts normal.
The only thing I remarked is, that "Mounting root device read-only" shows [Fail] during the boot process...

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Re: After update, freeze at the boot

I got the same problem. My laptop has only 1 week old system. I do not know where could be the problem. It happens randomly after system settings changes, but I do not know it for sure.

I guess this topic does not belong to "Newbie Corner", this has to be a bug. Maybe only laptop issue? I do not know.

Re: After update, freeze at the boot

have you tried to append single at the end of the grub boot loader?  then if you can get into runlevel 1 see if you can get into runlevel 3 from there.

init 3

then if you can get into runlevel 3 just start X.  Of course if this is a bug this would work since it errors when modules are loading maybe it could be a workaround.  I am not sure.  This is just a suggestion to try to see if you can get in and then maybe downgrade?

Re: After update, freeze at the boot

i've noticed problem arises only on battery power for my notebook (hp pro 4510s)
switching to ac fixes it. Moreover, after next update problem vanished. Curious about reasons cause strange bug
