When I try to play most wav files I get: "could not determine type of stream".
I have installed all additional g streamer plug-ins and after doing so was able to get Exaile to play m4a files but not wav.
I must have missed something...have been searching around in forums and in wiki for solution but so far no go.
And I don't know what the difference in the type of wav files is that has Exaile recognizing some but not all of them. All of my wav files came from the same source.
Does anyone know if there is a plug-in I can install to solve this problem? Or perhaps there is something else that I could try?

Are you check the permissions of the files?
Check the files don't have special (weird) characters.

Yes. That's not the problem. No weird characters going on.
Someone please help!

Reinstall it and try it agian. If reinstalling doesn't work, then remove it and install it

I have already tried this.

Did you try with Rhythmbox?

I haven't tried Rhythmbox...yet. I might if I can't solve these problems with Exaile. It's doing funny things with my playlists too but I won't go there for now. I want to at least give it some time and see if I can find solutions first before I give up on Exaile. I like it well enough to do this. I am really missing Amarok right now though.
I know there must be SOMEONE who can help!

The suggestion of using Rhythmbox is to be sure that the files are not the problem.

Ok, I just tried Rhythmbox and got the same result with the wav files as I did with Exaile. Maybe, I am also missing a plug-in for Rhythmbox? I know that it uses basically the same g-streamer plug-ins as Exaile but is there another one that is needed for wav? Or rather, is there more than one plug-in that enables wav files to play that I could try? I actually also just tried playing the same wav files in Gnome M-player and they worked just fine, no problem at all. Weird.

Do you get any error with Rhythmbox?

Try:
aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wavDoes that work?

N0dix: No errors with Rhythmbox, files just wouldn't play, same as Exaile.
itsbrad: I tried your code and nope, didn't work.
Thanks for both of your suggestions. If there's anything else I can try please let me know! Otherwise I'll just be satisfied to revert to Gnome M-Player whenever I want to hear those files and keep using Exaile for everything else, since I solved my playlist issues with it and am satisfied with using it in place of Amarok.
I am convinced that there must be some sort of solution to this though...
