Hi all,
I just got Steam working again on my 64bit Arch using bin32-wine-suse from the AUR. I have successfully installed and run Osmos, but there is absolutely no sound. Winecfg has OSS set as the sound device and the "Test Sound" button works perfectly. I'm assuming it is a OpenAL issue, but I am not sure about how to fix it. Any ideas?

I ran Osmos with sound on wine + Alsa, but that's on 32 bit. I also used the installer and not the Steam version.
Could you please start Osmos in a terminal and have a look at any error messages? (cd ~/.wine/drive_c/PATH/TO/Osmos/osmos; wine osmos.exe)
For instance the following happens if I run music (xmms2d) in the background:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1010:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
ALSA lib pcm_dsnoop.c:593:(snd_pcm_dsnoop_open) unable to open slave
Are there any similar messages in your output?

ALSA lib pcm.c:2171:(snd_pcm_open_conf) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so
ALSA lib pcm.c:2171:(snd_pcm_open_conf) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so
AL lib: alsa.c:486: Could not open playback device 'default': No such file or directoryUnfortunately I can't run Osmos on its own, so this is output filtered through Steam. In playing around with it yesterday, I am beginning to feel that the Steam client is taking control of the snd-pcm-oss module. When it is open, the "Test Sound" button will not work in winecfg. Thanks for the quick help.

I would check why it tries to open "libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so". Do you have multiple audio drivers selected?
Offline
Nope, just OSS. OSS should be routed to ALSA through snd-pcm-oss which should be routed to Pulse. That is strange that it is trying to call that module =\. I'll try and dig around a bit, but I'm not too confident in finding some of this lower level stuff. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them ![]()
