pyWinAuto equivalent for linux?

Hi, there is this cool tool called pyWinAuto where you can control another application from within a python application, but it only works for windows.

Is there an equivalent for linux?
I want it to control my media player, while I don't want to hardcode a media player into my commandline application when I already have a working frontend for my player.
