run asunder as a normal user?

hi whenever i run asunder as a normal i am getting


Error: Couldn't open /dev/cdrom
Error: Couldn't open /dev/cdrom

the only way it works is if i run it as root. 
i would like to avoid doing this so is there a way to get it to work as a normal user?
i already added my user to the optical group ... no luck


any ideas? thanks
