What do you know about Parabola ?

Hi to everyone:

I found this distro based on Arch Linux.

Somebody can talk us about it?.

Re: What do you know about Parabola ?

Hadn't heard of it before. According to their install guide, the only difference is the kernel package, and as they haven't posted their kernel config or PKGBUILD, it's impossible to see what they have changed without actually installing it, or at least downloading it.

I'm also dubious about the phrase "Free your Archlinux to Parabola!", which is the first line of that install guide - although it's possible that's a language/translation issue.

Re: What do you know about Parabola ?

We have the free Archlinux packages , our own linux-libre package...

So, they're using the linux-libre kernel. So it's designed to be a fully 'free' (FSF fashion) version of Arch.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: What do you know about Parabola ?

Apparently it's working on MIPS support. Kind of interesting I suppose. Is that so it can be run on those Loongson CPUs like what Richard Stallman uses? Those things have 100% free software support, even at the BIOS level - which would seem to fit in well with the distro's aims.

I don't really care about having a 100% free software system, but hey, if they get the MIPS support done and it will fit in 2MB of storage then maybe I'll install it on my ADSL modem tongue
